A new engineering tool has been developed with safety in mind. Developing countries tend to see a large number of accidents in public works, but that may change. In India, a new safety monitoring system called "On Site Visualization" has been put into use. This system uses a device with built-in LEDS and has been placed on the walls in metro construction sites. This device uses real-time processing and a series of lights (blue for "no irregularities" and yellow or red for "In danger of collapsing,") to measure irregularities or tilting. This system was developed by Professor Shinichi of Kobe University Graduate School of Engineering.

| Would you live in a house made of nothing but wood? "Timber-Frame" Architecture is a trend that has been on the rise since last year, and is only growing stronger with time. In the process of timber-framing, nails and metal are NOT used; instead, large wooden beams lock together with wooden pegs and form "joints." Diagonal bracing is used to the movement of structural vertical beams or posts. The structure remains exposed. Timber-frame homes are a very pricey, but ultimately gorgeous option for those looking to build a new home and truly appreciate a craftsman's skill. It is said the structures will last for centuries. |
You are required to obtain a building permit in Volusia County while undergoing any type of construction, erection, alteration, modification, repair, equipment, use and occupancy, location, maintenance, removal and demolition of every public and private building, structure or facility or floating residential structure, or any appurtenances connected or attached to such buildings, structures or facilities. Does this sound like a hassle to you? Zahn Engineering will gladly help you not only narrow down which permits you need, but help you attain them!
